Calvin's Vision Come True!

Calvin's Story . . .

Calvin was a 6-8 week old puppy that was found abandoned early on the morning of November 18th, 2019.  He was left outside our shelter gate in 40+ degree weather and wasn’t where he could be seen by the staff.  Only by the Grace of God did he let out some cries and was found.  He was hypothermic and had an oozing eye wound.  He was warmed up and rushed to a veterinary hospital where it was determined that he had a traumatic head injury.  He had significant cerebral/spinal fluid on his head and was full of parasitic worms.  He was also blind and his prognosis for survival was highly unlikely.  Calvin was brought home by one of our volunteers, not with the expectation of fostering him through recovery, but rather just the want to give him comfort and love in what was expected to be his final days.

Since that day, Calvin's recovery has been nothing short of miraculous.  Although Calvin has not regained his vision thus far, he is thriving.  He has adapted to his blindness with enhanced hearing and sense of smell.  Calvin has given and continues to give hope and inspiration to many, showing that there is no room for self-pity, that hope and prayers and a will to overcome and persevere is all we need.  Our shelter, amazing volunteers, donors and prayers gave Calvin a chance and he continues to give back, by inspiring others to give and make changes to improve the lives of abused, unwanted or abandoned precious animals.

Calvin's story has been set out in a paperback and ebook, available on Amazon - "Calvin - Love Through My Eyes".  All of the proceeds from these books go entirely to our animal shelter.

You can learn more about Calvin’s story on his Facebook page.  It chronicles his life with daily posts, pictures and videos documenting this little guy’s fight and spirit.

Use FindingRover.com to help reunite lost pets with their families!  It's FREE!

We strive to find innovative ways to keep pets in our community safe so we are very excited to announce our new partnership with Finding Rover! Finding Rover uses facial recognition technology to help reunite lost dogs and cats with their families, allowing anyone with a smart phone or computer access, to be a superhero.

How It Works

Through our partnership, photos of all animals who come into our shelter as strays will now be uploaded to the Finding Rover database. When a pet is reported to Finding Rover as lost, the picture uploaded by the pet parent will be scanned against all stray pets currently in our shelter. Finding Rover will then display any pets whose faces match.

Additionally, the lost pet's photo will be scanned against photos uploaded by people in the community who have found pets and reported them to Finding Rover (a free service anyone can use). The photo will be scanned against other partner shelters' stray pets in Tennessee and nationwide.

Top 3 Reasons to Use Finding Rover

  1. It reunites families! One of our goals is to reduce the number of pets that come into our care by keeping them with the families that love them.

  2. It's easy! Anyone with a smartphone or computer can upload a lost or found dog or cat instantly.

  3. It's FREE! Although millions of dollars have been invested into this technology, it doesn't cost you a penny.

If you FIND a stray dog or cat...
